BL/GL Recommendations (Citrus Con 2026)

It’s that time of year again! Citrus Con is the premiere virtual online convention for enthusiasts and supporters of LGBTQIA+ media with a focus on BL; it’s complete with panels, talks, watch parties, and a robust artist alley.

Partially for others and partially for myself, I’m throwing together a quick list of my favorite works so I only need to link this page, AND will also add a section of promising recommendations given to me and will update it throughout the con (2026-02-27 ~ 2026-03-01). If you’re reading this when it was first published in a newsletter, you won’t get those updates, so make sure to come back later!

People make all sorts of recommendation lists, especially at Citrus Con, so mine will especially highlight BIPOC and/or trans works, as that is what I personally focus on and tends to be difficult to curate. Specifically Black works will get an additional 💫Enjoy!

Favorite Books/Stories of 2025

  • Domesticating a Pig by Johannes T. Evans – Detective Inspector Phil Hutchinson, a total pig of a cop, gets caught up with the disabled and alluring son of a narcotics distributor, Adrian Gillespie. He gets closer than he intended, and is rewarded — and punished — as per. Ongoing. ACAB includes this protagonist, which I always appreciate. Really cool wheelchair user representation that doubles as being the hottest man I’ve thirsted over in ages. Got me out here jealous of a cop.
  • ANGEL/PEARL by Friction Press – A boyfailure gang leader and a charismatic male strip club owner fight over a cute mute boy whose name and age they don’t even know and who may or may not be human. Wonderful sex scenes, compelling fantastical twists, and the joy of feeling like you can have your cake and eat it, too.
  • This bundle called THE EVIL QUEEROTICA BUNDLE *that kills you*Self-explanatory.
  • The Edge of a Knife by m. foxwolfe – A provocative romance between a high school dropout with schizophrenia, and a closeted trans guy living with his deadbeat dad that take out their problems in a shooting range (and sometimes each other). A sexy and dark psychological thriller that had me on edge. I absolutely could not relate to these characters and it was the best thing that could’ve happened to me.
  • Landlocked in Foreign Skin by Drewe Huff – A stolen body. Deep sea/space horror. Lobotomies. What would you do to reclaim your skin? A quick read that sticks in my mind. Problematic women, problematic sex, and fates worse than death.

Favorite Comics of 2025

  • Shape Up by Sam 💫- Insecure with his appearance after getting rejected years ago by his high school crush, Noel is convinced that all he needs is a haircut to improve his looks. Luckily for him, his new barber is talented with his hands in more ways than one. Ongoing. A sweet, hilarious, and way, way sexy story of three incredibly beautiful Black men from different walks of life. I never shut up about this one *throws my wallet*
  • Little Death by PomPoison – Ellery, a shy recluse trans man, attempts to move on from his harrowing experience in conversion therapy, while Callisto, a necromancer in a parallel dimension, is obsessed with him. Queer Gothic Horror with the most delicious monsterfucking, age gap, and noncon I’ve seen in a while.
  • Sparks by Revel – Two young Satyrs graduating from their academy get in a magical accident that sets a series of kingdom-defining events in action. An ongoing webcomic series featuring fantasy, rivals-to-lovers done right, problematic doofuses, and all set against a class act of wonderfully immersive and original worldbuilding.
  • OLYMPIAN HEIGHTS by nocturnal emission 💫- Superheroes with secret identities who get up to trouble and messy relationships. BLACK BOY YAOI?! I’ve only recently started this webcomic but I’m already super into it.
  • BOYS WITH TITS – Self-explanatory. An anthology bundle of that good shit. It was only on sale temporarily, but you can still click all the contributors’ links and probably find some of the individual entries (or at least some good, adjacent things).
  • Bytchcraft 💫- Set against the backdrop of modern-day New York City during a permanent supernatural eclipse, follow a queer coven bound by magic and blood. MTHR help us! Not explicitly a BL/GL, it’s just a very queer and beautiful fantasy comic featuring protagonists of various genders and sexualities with heartfelt dialogue.

Games/Movies/TV/Music

  • Noah’s Arc 💫- The classic gay Black sitcom drama came back over a decade later and it was better than ever. As messy as I remember. I just don’t think “gay Black sitcom” exists outside of this one show, and I’m grateful it’s so fucking good. I laughed and cried. It really felt like the gay elders held my hand on this one. It felt like closure.
  • Glow of Honeydew – A 18+ visual novel about a voyeuristic girl and her roommate. Heartbreaking and beautiful and very sapphic.
  • BOSSGAME: The Final Boss Is My Heart – Lesbian devil-hunting action; the sword priestess Sophie and the fire witch Anna fight, flirt, and just try to pay the rent. LESBIAN DEVIL-HUNTING ACTION!! Great for Undertale fans.
  • Coquette Dragoon – A slice of life story amidst the bloodiest war ever fought in space; people have bunny ears. This linear visual novel is the equivalent of doing a line in a rundown public bathroom off a sexy fat girl’s ass before you have to get back into your mech.
  • Furfag by Pent Up Pup – Musical album/EP described by its creator as a “furfag radio where a self-cest orgy in the mff con elevators is just another day.” Such a beautiful celebration of joy from a queer furry that’s relatable for anyone who has ever fallen in love.
  • I Love My Computer by Ninajirachi – Musical album/EP about growing up online. A pretty famous choice in this list alongside Noah’s Arc, but I couldn’t NOT list it.
